  • Chelsea remain in the bottom half after a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge
  • It's the Blues' third loss of the season, and they have just five points from their opening six games
  • Mauricio Pochettino is under pressure to turn it around, but he must look at his decisions

Chelsea dig deeper in their decline after another home loss to Aston Villa on Sunday, their third game without finding the back of the net as their struggles continue.

Mauricio Pochettino appears not to be finding answers to the team's scoring problems, as Nicolas Jackson is proving every minute he can not be the man to lead the attack.

Sports Brief looks at five things the Argentine manager is getting wrong from the season's opening weeks.

1. Misprofiling players

This probably is the biggest concern of every fan right now. It has been square pegs in round holes since the season began with a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool. Levi Colwill as a left-back, Ben Chilwell as a winger, Enzo Fernandez as number 10 and Conor Gallagher as a number 6 are the wrong deployment of players irking the fans.

2. Poor tactical tweaks

Poch guided Chelsea to an unbeaten pre-season, primarily using the 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 formation, but an injury to Christopher Nkunku in the game against Borussia Dortmund has thrown the shape into a dilemma. Carney Chukwuemeka was preferred in the role before he also got injured. Fans expected new signing Cole Palmer to be selected, but the manager has overlooked him.

3. In-game management

Chelsea lack the spirit to grind out wins, a hallmark of a big team. Even on days when top clubs don't perform, they get results. This is lacking in Pochettino's team and is down to his in-game management. Bringing on a defender for an attacker when a goal is needed is not exactly an intelligent decision.

4. The big decisions

The former Tottenham boss is making some decisions like he does not want to offend some players in the team. From overlooking Thiago Silva for captain to not wanting to drop him after poor performances to playing Levi Colwill out of position after signing a new contract, he appears like he is not the man to make big decisions.

5. His press conferences

Sports Brief previously opined that Pochettino won Chelsea fans with his comments during his early press conferences, which centred around winning after the demoralising statements from Potter. He has since gone back into his shell, and the "process and projects" comments are back, much to the dismay of the fans.

Pochettino pinpoints Chelsea's problem

Sports Brief reported that Pochettino pinpointed Chelsea's problem after Villa defeat, indirectly calling out misfiring striker Nicolas Jackson, who has picked up more cards than goals.

Jackson received his fifth booking of the season in the sixth game, having scored just one goal. It's baffling for the manager who rued their lack of cutting edge in the final third as the reason for their downfall.
