Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes led by example on Saturday with a sensational volley to give his side the lead against Burnley.

Fresh out of a defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Erik ten Hag’s men went into the game knowing nothing short of a win would appease fans.

There were some notable changes to United’s squad for the Burnley trip, as Jonny Evans came in for Lisandro Martinez, whose absence was confirmed late on Saturday.

Ten Hag also entrusted Hannibal Mejbri with a place in the starting XI, while Rasmus Hojlind and Marcus Rashford led a two-man attack up front.

United thought they had taken the lead through Jonny Evans, but the former Leicester City man had his header was chopped off after review.

The visitors were far from their best in the first half, and it took something special from their captain to hand them the lead.
