  • Massimiliano Allegri has named an unchanged XI for the away trip to Sassuolo
  • It's the first time in 112 games since his second return to the club in 2021
  • The Old Lady have started the season strongly, but Allegri is downplaying title chances

Massimiliano Allegri made history in his little way after he announced the Juventus starting 11 for today's Serie A away trip to Sassuolo.

Juventus go into the fifth game of the season unbeaten, have 10 points from the opening four games, and could move to the top of the table temporarily if they win.

Allegri is in the third season of his second spell, having returned to the club after a two-year hiatus, during which the club had two managers - Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo.

The Old Lady dispatched Lazio with a dominant performance in their last game, beating former manager Sarri's side 3-1.

Allegri makes history

The Italian boss returned to the club in 2021, and for the first time since his first game against Udinese, he named an unchanged XI, sticking to the same 11 that beat Lazio last week, as noted by Opta Paolo.

Fair to him, the team had been in crisis on and off the pitch during that time and going by the famous saying: "Don't fix it if it's not broken", Juventus were broken.

Allegri downplays title chances

Juventus won nine straight Scudetto, including five under Allegri in his first spell before their hegemony was broken by Inter Milan in 2021, and the league had different winners since then, including AC Milan and Napoli.

The Bianconeri are having a solid start to the season, but the manager wants his team to focus and not think about the title yet.

“Now we have to stay focused because there’s too much euphoria and, while on the one hand that’s nice, it can take away energy and attention. We’re only on matchday five,” he said via Fotmob.
“We have to have the desire to be at the top, but we have to get the results to get into the Champions League.”

Pogba’s disciplinary issue at Juventus

Sports Brief reported that Allegri dropped Pogba for a game after the France star came late for a team retreat before a Europa League match.

Juve dropped into the second competition from the Champions League and was due to play SC Freiburg, but the former Red Devil turned up late.

It was one of the disciplinary issues since he returned. He was publicly scolded for jet skiing during his knee injury rehabilitation.
