- Al Ettifaq confirmed on Friday that the former Manchester United man would be joining them
Jesse Lingard’s career has taken a strange turn as the attacker is set to train with Saudi Arabia outfit Al Ettifaq for one month.
It almost looked like Lingard would rejoin his former side West Ham United as he trained with the Londoners towards the end of the summer transfer window.
But the former Manchester United man remains a free agent, after his contract at Nottingham Forest came to an end.
While his future remains in limbo, Lingard has been offered a lifeline by Al Ettifaq, who announced a one-month training deal with the winger on Friday, September 22.
Lingard took to social media on Friday to share a snap of himself leaving Manchester, presumably for the Middle East.
Al Ettifaq, managed by Liverpool legend, was among the Saudi Arabia clubs that also secured some big names from Europe in the summer.
Jordan Henderson and ex-Everton winger Demarai Gray are currently getting accustomed to the Middle East after joining the club.
In June, Lingard spoke about the prospects of moving to Saudi Arabia top flight which has seen its popularity rocket in recent months.
“I'm considering all options,” Lingard said at the time.
“I've never ruled out any team or club out, so for me it's just picking the right team and it's got to be right for me.”
“Saudi Arabia are doing big things, and in the next couple of years or so, it will be one of the hotspots to go to.”
Earlier in September, Lingard, 30, featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly for West Ham.
According to GOAL.com, David Moyes was considering re-signing the forward, but Lingard had some concerns and wanted some assurances before anything was put on the table.

Sports Brief also reported on Andre Onana and the mockery the goalkeeper has been subjected to since joining Manchester United.
Onana replaced David de Gea as United's first-choice goalkeeper after the Spaniard was allowed to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract last summer.
His latest howler in the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on Wednesday led to mass ridicule from rival fans on social media, who resorted to creating hilarious memes.
