The 2023/24 Champions League campaign kicked off officially on Tuesday, September 19.

According to Sky Sports, Julian Alvarez's brace and Rodri's 73rd-minute goal earned City a comfortable win at home.

Beyond the action at the Etihad Stadium, the first round of matches was also marked with individual milestones.

The Al-Nassr ace scored an incredible 140 goals in the competition during his illustrious European career.

Ronaldo's success in the competition saw him rightfully nicknamed 'Mr. Champions League'.

The Portuguese talisman played in 183 Champions League games across his stints with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.

Messi is placed second on the top goalscorers chart, having scored 129 goals in the competition and bagged 45 assists.

A huge chunk of the goals were scored during the Argentine's illustrious spell with Barcelona.

According to GiveMeSport, Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, and Real Madrid legend Raul complete the top five podium of the leading goalscorers in the history of the Champions League.

Al-Nassr begin Champions League quest

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Al-Nassr securing victory over Persepolis to successfully launch their AFC Champions League campaign on September 19.

Second-half strikes from Abdulrahman Ghareeb and Mohammed Qassem were more than enough to help the Knights of Najd secure a 2-0 win in Tehran.

Before the match, all eyes were on Ronaldo, whose presence in the Iranian capital caused a city-wide frenzy as fans swarmed to catch a glimpse of the veteran.
