"Unfortunately, not the results we wanted but we will come back stronger! Thank you all for the support!," wrote Bukari on social media after the match.

The 24-year-old gave the Serbian champions the lead on the stroke of half-time after beating the offside trap to finish off in style.

City responded early in the second half through Argentine forward, Julian Alvarez. The 2022 World Cup winner gave Man City the lead for the first time in the game on the hour mark before Rodri sealed victory late in the game.

Despite the defeat, Red Star Belgrade manager, Barak Bahar was proud of Bukari and his teammates for putting up a good fight in England.

"After the lead at halftime, I told the team that they had to keep playing, because I knew that Manchester City would press in the second half. They scored quickly in the second half but we were brave and kept fighting. We tried to press, but we didn't succeed, because their ball moves incredibly. We fought, we can look in the mirror and I'm proud of the team. We will transfer this energy to the next game," he said after the game, as quoted by crvenazvezdafk.com.
