Barcelona will begin their quest to conquer Europe for the sixth time when they begin their quest for the UEFA Champions League title against Royal Antwerp on Tuesday, September 19.

The Catalans have failed to progress out of the group stage in the last two editions and manager, Xavi has revealed that simply progressing to the Round of 16 is the club’s target this season.

According to GOAL, summer signing Ilkay Gundogan has now revealed that Barcelona winning the UEFA Champions League is likely too stiff of a challenge for the Catalans.

"I would like to win the Champions League again, but I know that the reality in Barcelona is different. We are in the process of building. We have a very young team but with a lot of potential and quality."

La Blaugrana last won the UCL in 2015 when Luis Enrique guided the La Liga giants to the title, with Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez all still part of the team.

Gundogan to return against Royal Antwerp

Meanwhile, Gundogan is expected to return for Barcelona against Royal Antwerp after recovering from a knock he suffered while representing Germany during the international break, The Hard Tackle reports.

The former Manchester City captain, who lifted the Champions League trophy last season, should replace Oriol Romeu to join Gavi and Frenkie de Jong in the middle of the park.

Barcelona will try to break their recent UCL hoodoo when they host Antwerp at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Tuesday night after failing to reach the knockout stage in the previous two seasons.

Barcelona to pocket €76m from UCL

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Barcelona preparing for Champions League profit to ease the burden of their dire financial situation - no matter where they finish.

The Catalan club will hope to kickstart their UCL campaign this season on a winning note when they host Royal Antwerp on Tuesday, September 19, in Spain.

Barcelona could pocket as much as €76.05 million should the Spanish giants win all their group games and qualify for the Round of 16 in the Champions League.
