Osasuna are set to come under the hammer of La Liga after a section of their supporters aimed death chants against Manchester United loanee, Mason Greenwood on his Getafe debut.
The 21-year-old forward made his first appearance in 20 months after coming on as a substitute. Getafe ran out with a 3-2 victory against Osasuna but faced a hostile reception from the fans.
According to Football Espana, Osasuna fans voiced their displeasure from the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez stands when Greenwood was subbed on, with many screaming ‘die’ during the encounter.
La Liga’s official match observer is said to have heard the chants. Now, a legal and disciplinary process is set to follow, with Los Rojillos expected to face a heavy fine from the Spanish league body.
Greenwood joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United on the transfer deadline this summer after the English courts acquitted him on assault and coercive control charges.
Osasuna coach condemns chants at Greenwood
Meanwhile, Osasuna coach, Jogoba Arrasate condemned the chants aimed at Greenwood from his team’s fans during their La Liga clash against Getafe on Sunday, Daily Mirror reports.
The Englishman received a hostile reception from supporters, with death chants aimed at him from the stands, on his first appearance since being suspended by Man United 20 months ago.
Getafe have also received major criticism from across the world for the decision to sign Greenwood, who was suspended in January 2022 after charges of assault were brought against him.
Greenwood gets support from Man United star
Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported on Greenwood receiving rare public support from United's Amad Diallo after the striker finally made his highly-awaited debut for Getafe.
The embattled youngster recently sealed a move to the La Liga side to try and resuscitate his football career and made his first Spanish league appearance versus Osasuna.
