FootballChelsea: Inside Look at All of Their Injured Players As Pochettino Continues to Struggle
- Chelsea played out to a frustrating goalless draw with Bournemouth on Sunday, September 17
- Mauricio Pochettino pinned the blame on the unavailability of a fully fit squad, with more than 10 players out with injuries
- The Blues remain with only six wins in competitive games this year
Chelsea's poor run this calendar year continued after they dropped points in a listless draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The Blues appeared out of sorts as they failed to break the Cherries' low block, leaving them with only one win in their first five games of the season despite the huge investment made over the last couple of transfer windows.
The West London side admittedly crafted chances but failed to breach Neto's net, with Raheem Sterling coming close in the second half when he hit the upright with a beautiful free-kick.
The run of results puts Mauricio Pochettino under immediate scrutiny. Boos rented the air from the away end at the end of the game, with vice-captain Ben Chilwell forced to apologise.
Pochettino's thoughts on Chelsea form
Pochettino downplayed the criticism and appeared to bemoan the lack of a fully fit available squad to him.
"I think the fans know if you invest the type of money, there is expectation. What I can tell the fans is the circumstance, I cannot change the reality. With all of the squad fit, we can compete, we don't have all of the squad available, what can we do?" he said, as quoted by Football London.
It goes without saying that Chelsea have been hampered by injuries to key players in recent seasons. The maiden campaign of the Pochettino era has been no different. He lost his new captain Reece James after just one game, a few weeks after new marquee signing Christopher Nkunku hurt his knee during preseason.
