The international break is over, and league action has resumed.

The DStv Premiership picked up where it left off before the break, with two of KwaZulu-Natal’s sides picking up big wins.

Richard’s Bay, who had only picked up two points from their first five games, secured a 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows on September 15, while AmaZulu put three past Cape Town City.

The Usuthu have struggled for goals this season but scored two goals after 90 minutes as they won 3-2.

The result was a massive boost to the club, who have now moved up to fourth on the table, and it showed on the faces of fans and the management after they scored the late winner.

KZN’s other sides draw

With two KZN sides winning, the other two could only draw.

Lamontville Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch played out to a goalless draw, while Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs could also not be separated.

As noted by Soccer Laduma, both sides had their chances to open the scoring but failed to capitalise on it. The 0-0 draw also ended Chiefs’ two-game winning streak.

Chiefs are now in fifth place on the table, 10 points behind the leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns prepare for Orlando Pirates

The defending champions weren’t in action over the weekend due to continental commitments, but they will take to the field again on Wednesday, September 20.

The league leaders will take on Orlando Pirates, the only team that many feel can challenge Masandawana this season.

The Buccanneers won the MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup last season and finished in second on the table behind the Brazilians.

DStv Premiership promotion and relegation

Sports Brief previously explained how the DStv Premiership promotion and relegation system works.

A mini-tournament is used every year to decide who secures the final spot in the league, Sports Brief reported.

Last season, Maritzburg United, Cape Town Spurs, and Casric Stars competed in the promotion playoffs.
