Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey has been named Brighton and Hove Albion's Player of the Match after an outstanding performance in the victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old provided a brace of assists as the Seagulls ended Man United's home invisibility with a shocking 3-1 win.

Lamptey, who missed the international break following his recent injury comeback, was handed his first start since March 2023, when he lasted only 17 minutes of the game against West Ham United.

The versatile defender found Pascal Gross for Brighton's second eight minutes into the break, having already taking a first-half lead through former United striker Danny Welbeck.

With 19 minutes remaining, Lamptey cleverly squeezed the ball to Joao Pedro, who put the game beyond the Red Devils, as reported by The Guardian.

Tunisian youngster Hannibal Mejbri gave United a lifeline two minutes later with a thunderous strike to pull one back for the host, but the English giants ending up succumbing to defeat.

"Welcome back, Tariq. Two assists against MUFC wins home our POTM award!," write Brighton on social media.

Lamptey is expected to maintain his place in the team as the English club faces AEK Athens in Europe on Thursday.

Schindler replaces injured Lamptey for Angola game

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that FC Koln winger, Kingsley Schindler has been handed a Black Stars invite following injury to Brighton & Hove Albion defender, Tariq Lamptey.

The German-born player will be making his international debut for Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

Schindler arrived in Ghana on Monday and trained with his teammates as preparations started for Thursday's game.

Lamptey excited after switching nationalities

Former England U21 defender Tariq Lamptey has finally reacted to his nationality switch ahead of his Black Stars debut later this month.

The Brighton and Hove Albion right-back has been named in Ghana's squad for the international friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.

And in a video posted on social media, Lamptey expressed delight in switching nationalities to represent Ghana.
