FootballErling Haaland Recreates Infamous Premier League Moment with Goal Celebrations vs West Ham
- Manchester City continued their 100% record in the Premier League with a win against West Ham
- Erling Haaland helped his side secure victory with his goal to make it 3-1
- During his goal celebrations, Haaland inadvertently recreated an infamous moment in the Premier League
Erling Haaland was on target once again with a goal against West Ham on Saturday, September 16 in the Premier League.
The young striker then somehow channelled in a goal celebration reminiscent of an incident in the Premier League 25 years ago.
Manchester City dominated the game early on, but the home side took the lead through their summer signing James Ward-Prowse, whose diving header from Vladimir Coufal's cross beat Ederson.
The defending Premier League champions responded swiftly in the second half, through a summer signing of their own Jeremy Doku, who bagged his first goal for the club.
The visitors continued to push for what would potentially be a winning goal and it came through Bernardo Silva, who calmly slotted past Alphonse Areola from a looping ball from Julian Alvarez, as per EuroSport.
Haaland, who had squandered several chances earlier in the game, then wrapped up the scoring with a trademark finish, but it was his goal celebration that left fans with long memories reminiscing.
Haaland recreates Paolo Di Canio incident
As the Norwegian striker was wheeling away in celebration, Bernardo Silva gave him a shove and he went sprawling to the ground on the touchline in scenes that were eerily similar to one that took place in 1998.
The incident involved fiery Italian Paolo Di Canio, who made headlines in September 1998 for pushing the referee to the ground after receiving a red card.
As cited on The Mirror, Di Canio was playing for Sheffield Wednesday at the time, and the incident took place in a Premier League game against Arsenal.

FootballUpon receiving his marching orders, an irate Di Canio shoved referee Paul Alcock, who went sprawling to the ground. Di Canio, who also had a spell at West Ham, received a lengthy ban for his actions.
While Haaland and Bernardo Silva did nothing illegal regarding the football rule book, it was interesting to see the similarities between the Norwegian’s celebration and Di Canio’s incident.
Mejbri defends himself
Sports Brief also reported on Manchester Uniteed youngster Hannibal Mejbri’s statement after he controversially celebrated his goal while Manchester United were 3-1 down against Brighton.
United succumbed to a second straight Premier League defeat, leaving them in 13th place on the log.
Taking to Instagram after the game, Mejbri decided to explain his celebration amid some criticism from frustrated Manchester United fans who saw little to smile about after a second league defeat in a row.
