The Spaniard, who previously managed French giants Paris St Germain and Spanish outfits Sevilla, was appointed in May 2018 following the departure of the Premier League’s longest serving manager Arsene Wenger.

A club statement has since been released by the Gunners confirming the sacking, with club chairman Josh Kroenke thanking Emery for his time with the club.

“Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success,” Kroenke stated.

Arsenal’s club statement further said the dismissal was largely motivated by a series of poor results.

“The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required,” read the statement.

He is the third manager to be dismissed in the top flight this season, after Watford parted ways with Javi Garcia and Spurs with Mauricio Pochettino..
