- Erik Ten Hag came on the spot after withdrawing summer signing Rasmus Højlund
- Højlund thought he had gotten his first goal for the club but his effort was ruled out by VAR
Manchester United fans turned on Erik Ten Hag after the manager decided to take off Rasmus Hojlund in the second half as the team was looking for a comeback against Brighton and Hove Albion.
United, despite getting off to a good start to the game, went behind against the run of play as their former star Danny Welbeck found the net from a Simon Adingra cross, 20 minutes into the game.
The Red Devils thought they had found an equalizer after Marcus Rashford beat his man and cut it back with the ball on the byline, cut it back for Hojlund to find the back of the net.
The Denmark international was buzzing after what he thought was his first goal for the club, but it was eventually chopped off as the ball was deemed to have gone out of play just as Rashford was about to cross.
Ten Hag takes off Hojlund
As seen on BBC, things went from bad to worse for United as they conceded a second goal in the 53rd minute as Pascal Gross’ stunning strike left Andre Onana with no chance.
With United trailing 2-0, Ten Hag decided to make some changes, taking off Hojlund for Casemiro for Anthony Martial and Hannibal Mejbri respectively.
But the decision to take off Hojlund did not sit well with Manchester United fans as boos rang out at Old Trafford following the manager’s decision.
The Dane looked threatening going forward and his presence had afforded Rashford space to taunt defenders and create chance on the left side.
