Bayern Munich have had a massive setback ahead of their UEFA Champions League group stage opener against English giants Manchester United on Wednesday, September 20.
The Bavarians have been hit with the news that veteran midfielder Joshua Kimmich might not be available for selection for the crunch clash against the Red Devils after picking up an injury.
According to Sportskeeda, Thomas Tuchel revealed Kimmich was substituted in Bayern Munich’s 2-2 against Bayer Leverkusen on the medical team's recommendation due to an inflamed tendon.
"Joshua had an inflamed tendon and we didn't want to take any risks with him. The medical team clearly said he could only play 60 minutes, and that's why we brought him off in the 60th minute."
Bayern will be hoping to start their 2023/24 Champions League campaign on a winning note as they seek to win the prestigious European trophy for the first time since 2020.

Meanwhile, are Bayern Munich reportedly unimpressed with Thomas Tuchel’s reign at the club and are targeting former Real Madrid and Liverpool star Xabi Alonso to replace him, The Sun reports.
According to reports in Germany, Tuchel is "irritating" the club's board with his harsh comments regarding the club's summer transfer business.
Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to the Allianz Arena to secure an impressive 2-2 draw against the reigning Bundesliga champions in their league clash on Friday night.
