According to Sportskeeda, Thomas Tuchel revealed Kimmich was substituted in Bayern Munich’s 2-2 against Bayer Leverkusen on the medical team's recommendation due to an inflamed tendon.

"Joshua had an inflamed tendon and we didn't want to take any risks with him. The medical team clearly said he could only play 60 minutes, and that's why we brought him off in the 60th minute."

Bayern will be hoping to start their 2023/24 Champions League campaign on a winning note as they seek to win the prestigious European trophy for the first time since 2020.

Bayern Munich planning for Tuchel’s exit

Meanwhile, are Bayern Munich reportedly unimpressed with Thomas Tuchel’s reign at the club and are targeting former Real Madrid and Liverpool star Xabi Alonso to replace him, The Sun reports.

According to reports in Germany, Tuchel is "irritating" the club's board with his harsh comments regarding the club's summer transfer business.

Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to the Allianz Arena to secure an impressive 2-2 draw against the reigning Bundesliga champions in their league clash on Friday night.

Joshua Kimmich picks next GOAT

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Joshua Kimmich already knows the heir to the GOAT throne between Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland as the era between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is set to come to an end.

Haaland and Mbappe have been touted as the next superstars of European football following their exploits for Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.

During a quickfire interview session, Kimmich was asked to pick between both strikers and the Bayern Munich captain did not hesitate to pick Mbappe ahead of Haaland.
