European Club Football Fest Returns This Weekend on DStv, GOtv
Club football action returns this weekend across major European leagues, as football's biggest stars continue their quest for silverware in different competitions. The Premier League, Laliga and Serie A are back with some intriguing fixtures to look forward to this weekend.
Here are some picks from the bunch that will broadcast live on DStv and GOtv Supa+:
The Milan Derby: This is the biggest match in Europe this weekend. Whenever these two meet, the whole of Italy pauses to watch. The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium (San Siro) has been the home ground for both teams since 1947. For a derby match, the home team gets more ticket allocation. This will be the first meeting between the two after Inter Millan defeated AC in the semi-final of the Champions League last season. There were over two million fan ticket applications for the last Milan derby. You don’t need to be in the stadium to enjoy this highly anticipated contest. Tune in to SuperSport Select 1 (DStv ch 209 and GOtv ch 63), at 5pm on Saturday to watch Inter Milan vs AC Milan live. It has been a while since a Super Eagles player featured in this derby. Hopefully, Samuel Chukwueze will have his first taste of the Millan derby on Saturday.
Other interesting Serie A matches for the weekend are Juventus vs Lazio, at 2pm on Saturday. Victor Osimhen’s Napoli will travel to Genoa, live at 7:45pm on Saturday while Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta will also visit Fiorentina on Sunday, at 5pm. All matches will be live on DStv and GOtv.
Premier League Leading Pack: It’s just four weeks into the new Premier League season, but only six of the twenty Premier League teams (Manchester City, Arsenal, Brentford, Liverpool, West Ham, and Tottenham) are unbeaten. This weekend, they all face the big task of retaining their unbeaten status. Liverpool will be away at Wolves in the first Premier League match of the weekend, starting 12:30pm on Saturday, on SuperSport Premier League (DStv ch203 and GOtv ch 66).
Two of the six teams will face off at London Stadium on Saturday when West Ham hosts Premier League and European champions, Manchester City. The Citizens are the only team with a hundred per cent record in the league so far. Manchester United will host Brighton at 3pm, Tottenham will be at home to Sheffield United, also at 3pm, while Newcastle will welcome Brentford to St. James’ Park at 5:30pm, live on SuperSport Premier League (DStv ch 203 and GOtv ch 66). On Sunday, Everton who have zero wins from four matches will host Arsenal at 4:30pm, live on SuperSport Premier League (DStv ch 203 and GOtv ch 66).
Laliga Big Boys: Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will all be in action this weekend. On Saturday, the sleeping giants, Valencia will host Atletico Madrid at the Mestalla. Valencia have six points from four matches, losing two in the process, while Atletico have seven points from three matches. The match will be live on SuperSport LaLiga (DStv ch 204 and GOtv ch 62), at 3;15pm. Later on Saturday, champions, Barcelona, will host Real Betis on the same channel, at 8pm. The Catalans are yet to lose a league match but are already two points behind their perennial rivals, Real Madrid. The big Laliga action on Sunday will see Real Madrid host Real Sociedad at the new ultramodern Santiago Bernabeu at 8;pm, live on SuperSport LaLiga (DStv ch 204 and GOtv ch 62). With Jude Bellingham banging goals every week since his arrival, Betis will have to be at their very best to stop the Madrid machine from rolling up another three points.
