- Harry Kane's performance in August was not enough to see him past Boniface
Super Eagles star, Victor Boniface's impressive performance in the latter stages of the Bundesliga has yielded results, with the Nigerian having equalled one of Erling Haaland's records and beaten Harry Kane to an award.
The striker moved to Germany in the summer after joining Bayer Leverkusen from Belgian side, Union Saint Gilloise.
Boniface's performance for the Xabi Alonso-tutored side in August earned him nominations for both the Bundesliga 'Rookie of the Month' and 'Player of the Month' awards.
The Nigerian youngster beat the English striker to the award for the top player in August, after scoring four goals in three appearances in the Bundesliga and adding another goal in the DFB-Pokal, according to the Bundesliga's official X account.
Boniface also bagged the 'Rookie of the Month' award ahead of former Barcelona player, Xavi Simons and German-born Nigerian goalkeeper, Noah Atubolu, who plays for Freiburg.
Winning both awards saw the 22-year-old Super Eagles rookie equal Haaland's record as the second player to win both awards in a month.
The Manchester City striker achieved the feat while playing for Borussia Dortmund. He went on to help the Premier League champions achieve a historic European treble in his debut season in England.
Meanwhile, over the weekend, Boniface made his debut for the Super Eagles and provided an assist for Samuel Chukwueze in Nigeria's 6-0 thumping of Sao Tome and Principe.
Given his performances so far, many are tipping the Nigerian for greatness.

The striker, who was just recently invited to the Nigerian national team set-up, will battle for the award against RB Leipzig's Simons and Freiburg's Atubolu.
