Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana and Morocco's Yassine Bounou have been nominated for FIFA's best goalkeeper award.

The African goalkeepers excelled with their countries and clubs in the year in retrospect and will battle with Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois, Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ederson of Manchester City for the top award.

Onana , who now plays for Manchester United, led Inter Milan to the final of the UEFA Champions League while Bounou starred as Morocco made history by reaching the semi-final of the World Cup.

The Moroccan shot-stopper before joining Al Hilal played a key role as Sevilla beat Jose Mourinho's AS Roma to win the Europa League.

FIFA announced the nominees on Thursday, September 14, 2023, with voting opened from now till Friday, October 6, as reported by fifa.com.

Meanwhile, another African who made the list of nominees is Nigeria's Victor Osimhen. The Napoli striker will face competition from Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Kevin De Bruyne for the best player award, as reported by punchng.com.

Conspicuously missing from the nominees for best women's goalkeeper is Super Falcon's Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Al Hilal players welcome Yassine Bounou

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Morocco goalkeeper, Yassine 'Bono' Bounou, was given a special welcome by his new teammates at Al Hilal following his move to the Saudi Arabian club in the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old joined Al Hilal from Spanish giants Sevilla on a three-year deal.

Bounou trained for the first time with the team on Friday and could make his debut against Al Feiha on Saturday.

Osimhen nominated for 2023 Ballon d'Or

Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen will compete with the likes of Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland for this year's Ballon d'Or award.

He became the first Nigerian to be nominated for the prestigious prize since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.

The Napoli striker scored 26 Serie A goals last season to lead the Partenopei to the Scudetto for the first time in more than three decades.
