According to Evening Standard, Maguire was introduced in the second half of the match to replace Marc Guehi.

However, it did not take long for the English defender to find himself on the receiving end, as he directed the ball into his own net to hand Scotland a lifetime.

Maguire's own goal saw him come under fire from a section of fans, with some making fun of his performance.

Maguire hits back at critics

The embattled centre-back has now hit back at his critics, insisting that he has what it takes to deal with the abuse.

However, the former Leicester City star was quick to admit he was disappointed with the own goal.

“I would not say I am a person who struggles with pressure mentally. I have been through a lot in the last couple of years and I have been Manchester United captain for nearly four years," he declared via The Mirror.
"You take a huge lot of responsibility and everything that comes with it - and that is a lot of bad as well as good. (At Hampden Park) they piled pressure on myself. I would not say I am used to it but I can deal with it," he added.

Maguire's defiant message comes when he is fighting to regain first-team football at Man United under Erik ten Hag.

The defender has hardly featured for the Red Devils this season, with the Dutchman relegating him to the bench.

Maguire reacts to losing captaincy

Sports Brief reported that Maguire expressed his disappointment after he lost the armband, as contained in a statement on his social media before the club confirmed officially.

The England defender claimed the decision was reached after a conversation with the manager. However, he promised to help the club on and off the pitch regardless of the situation.
