  • Casemiro, Declan Rice, Rodri, and Thomas Partey are among the highly-rated defensive midfielders
  • Rice was recently put to task to name the midfielders he sees as 'top of his position in the world'

Arsenal ace Declan Rice has listed four players that he believes are the top defensive midfielders in Europe right now.

Rice is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, thanks to his impressive skills, talent, and experience.

The Englishman was the subject of a transfer battle pitting several Premier League clubs during the summer.

However, it was the Gunners who finally won the transfer race, beating the likes of Manchester United and City to the services of the England international.

According to the BBC, the north Londoners forked out an eye-watering £105 million to secure the transfer of the 24-year-old.

Who are the top midfielders in Europe?

Opinion has always been divided among fans and pundits on who is the best midfielder in Europe right now.

The likes of Rice, Man City's Rodri, Casemiro of Manchester United and Thomas Partey have prominently featured in the debate.

Speaking recently to Joe Cole in an interview with Channel 4 via GiveMeSports, Rice was asked to name the players he sees as 'top of his position in the world.'

While he did not rank them from 1-4, he gave some insight into a quartet of the players that he admires.

In his choice, there was no room for Casemiro as he went on to include Rodri, Partey, Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni, and Jorginho.

"The main one in the Premier League is Rodri," he said.
"Partey when I first came to Arsenal was incredible and has been up until his injury
"Tchouaméni at Real Madrid. He's a youngster as well but he's aggressive, gets on the ball, goes forward with it – he's very good," he continued.

Why Rice joined Arsenal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Declan Rice has finally opened up on his decision to snub Manchester City and Chelsea to seal a move to Arsenal.

The England international joined the Gunners this summer, ending speculation that surrounded his future with West Ham United.
