- The England international has opened up on the summer transfer window
Harry Maguire remains defiant about his Manchester United career and has opened up on all the incidents of the past months at the club, including the failed West Ham transfer.
Maguire is having a difficult time right now after coming on to score an own goal for England in their 3-1 win over eternal rivals Scotland, with many fans questioning his selection by Gareth Southgate.
The defender is yet to start a game for United in the league but was called up for the international games and enjoyed a handful of minutes, including 90 minutes against Ukraine.
It follows a crazy summer where he was stripped of United's captaincy by Erik ten Hag and replaced by Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes. He opted to stay at the club after turning down a move to West Ham, despite clubs agreeing on a £30m, as reported by The Athletic.
Maguire explains Man Utd stay
The 30-year-old has been getting suggestive cheers from opponent fans each time he comes on the pitch, and it was no different against Scotland.
Speaking after the game, as quoted by Mirror UK, he remained unfazed about this and reflected on his decision to stay at Old Trafford.
“We just didn’t come to an agreement,” he said of the failed move.
“They were happy for me to stay, and I was happy to fight for my place. I want to do that, and every time I train or play, I will give everything.”
He disagreed with the claims that his decision to stay despite an agreement hampered his minutes and believes he will get chances this season:
“We have lots of games coming up now, and I am sure I will play lots of games.”
United face Brighton this weekend, and the former Leicester City defender could get some minutes, with Raphael Varane out injured and Lisandro Martinez a doubt.

The England defender claimed the decision was reached after a conversation with the manager. However, he promised to help the club on and off the pitch regardless of the situation.
