Barcelona are yet to know the full extent of Ilkay Gundogan’s injury after the midfielder was substituted early in Germany’s victory against France on September 12.

Gundogan was in tears when he was taken off in the friendly game against France after suffering a nasty fall that landed him on his lower back and injured his pelvis.

According to AS Sport, the extent of the injury is not known but Gundogan will now undergo medical tests to see how serious the issue is when he arrives back in Spain.

However, it is certain the former Manchester City captain will miss Barcelona’s next La Liga game against Real Betis on September 16 and their UEFA Champions League clash versus Antwerp three days later.

Gundogan joins the growing list of injured Barcelona players, with the Catalan club already battling with the loss of Ronald Araujo and Pedri for the next few weeks due to respective injuries.

Germany coach downplays Gundogan’s injury

Meanwhile, Germany’s interim head coach, Rudi Voller has appeared to ease Barcelona’s concerns after claiming the injury to Gundogan is not as serious as first feared, Football Espana reports.

The coach tried to calm tensions after the friendly game against France by saying the midfielder's injury was only a bruise and not a fracture as initially feared, which could have ruled him out for months.

Gundogan was taken off in the 25th minute for Germany after suffering a nasty fall which saw him land on his lower back and was said to have left him with an injured pelvis.

Gundogan to captain Germany ahead of Euro 2024

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Gundogan being set to captain Germany according to former manager, Flick, nine months before the country hosts Euro 2024.

The veteran midfielder skippered Premier League and European champions, Manchester City during the 2022/23 treble campaign before leaving for La Liga.

The 32-year-old Gundogan was confirmed as being the one to wear the captain's armband during Germany's international friendly vs. Japan in Wolfsburg.
