Harry Maguire has found himself on the receiving end yet again after he scored a comical own goal during the Scotland versus England friendly clash staged at Hampden Park on Tuesday night.

Maguire has been a mainstay figure for the Three Lions despite being frozen out of the Manchester United first team by coach, Erik ten Hag.

According to the Evening Standard, the embattled Red Devils defender started the match from the bench before he was introduced to replace Marc Guehi.

The centre-back came on when the Three Lions were leading 2-0, courtesy of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden. The latter opened the scoring for the visitors before the Real Madrid whiz doubled a short while later.

The second half of the match saw Scotland pull one goal back, thanks to Maguire's own goal.

In a video doing rounds on social media, the England international inadvertently turned Andy Robertson’s low cross past a helpless Aaron Ramsdale and into his own net.

The defender's own goal sparked reactions among fans online, with @BashFarhan tweeting:

"How will this guy play ahead of Ben White?"

@SahilMufc noted:

"He really has got the worst possible luck right now."

@princej_11 joked:

"Harry Maguire just wants to finish his career."

@Gerald_yea observed:

"Clearly not his fault please everyone be nice."

@IdowuJudah added:

"He's always at the crime scene. Whether he's responsible or not."

How Maguire can break into United XI

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on ten Hag giving a concise answer when asked whether Maguire had a future at Old Trafford following a botched move to West Ham United.

The embattled centre-back had a whirlwind few months that saw him stripped of the United captaincy and saw him fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford last season.

West Ham reportedly agreed a fee of £30 million to sign the defender, only for these talks to stall amid Maguire’s apparent unwillingness to move to the East London club.
