Cristiano Ronaldo did not enjoy a fairytale return to Manchester United after terminating his contract with the Premier League club in the second season of his second coming.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s return to Old Trafford in 2021 sparked scenes of joy among many Man United fans, but all that was quickly erased after a fall-out with Erik ten Hag.
According to the Daily Mirror, former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has now revealed Ronaldo left the Red Devils “frustrated” with his high demands during his explosive second spell at the club.
“He didn't want his standards to drop, he wanted other people's standards to come up. And sometimes, you lose a few people along the way when that happens. I remember certain times when he pushed and pushed hard, and he didn't get much reaction or much response. And there was frustration.”
Since leaving Manchester United for Al-Nassr earlier this summer, Ronaldo has had a good run of luck. He assisted his new team in winning the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Ronaldo knew he would be world's best
Meanwhile, Mike Phelan has also revealed Cristiano Ronaldo’s success did not surprise the Portugal superstar as he always knew he would be the best player in the world, Sky Sports reports.
The 38-year-old forward has won several individual awards, including five Ballon d’Or trophies, since bursting into the football scene in the early 2000s with Sporting Lisbon.
Ronaldo has also enjoyed success with all the teams he has played for in his career, winning multiple trophies with Manchester United, Real Madrid and now with Al Nassr.
