Chelsea summer signing and Super Eagles-eligible player, Lesley Ugochukwu has revealed why he joined the Premier League side.
Ugochukwu joined the Blues from French Ligue 1 side Rennes for a reported fee of €27million.
The 19-year-old's move to Chelsea this summer came as a surprise to many, as he was yet to establish himself as a regular starter for Rennes.
In an interview with L’equipe, as per GFFN, the Chelsea midfielder claimed that he decided to join the Premier League side due to his desire to play for a top club.
"It’s Chelsea! You just need to look at all the trophies that they’ve won and the legends that have played there," he said.
"When a club of that stature comes in for you, it is very difficult to refuse."
"It’s the start of a new cycle, with new players and new ambitions. I was attracted by what they wanted to do and by what they saw in me."
The young midfielder also spoke about his ambitions after leaving the French Ligue 1 side.
"Regarding my ambitions, I think it was perfect to leave at that time. They say that I can become a great midfielder if I work hard and everything goes well. It’s up to me to prove that I can have a place in the long term," he added.
Chelsea have been investing in young talents all around the world since American businessman Todd Boehly took over the club.
Ugochukwu is one of the top talents in the Chelsea squad, but he faces serious competition from fellow summer signings Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo in his position.

Chelsea tried to sign Awoniyi
Sports Brief also earlier reported that Chelsea made a last-minute move to sign Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest this summer.
The Blues were one of the heavy spenders in the summer, signing the likes of Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion, Romeo Lavia from Southampton, Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, Robert Sanchez from Brighton, Christopher Nkunku, and others.
Despite signing so many players, Chelsea were still in need of a new striker a few days before the transfer window closed, due to Nkunku's injury, which was sustained during pre-season.
