Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen will finish as the top scorer after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers end on Monday night, September 11.

The Napoli of Italy forward netted a hat trick again as the Super Eagles demolished Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 in their final group game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Nigeria finished top of Group A with 15 points and will be a strong contender for the tournament, which starts in January in Ivory Coast.

Defending champions, Senegal, are also through to the continental showpiece as superstar Sadio Mane scored five goals throughout the process, Goalballlive reports.

Tunisia’s Youssed Msakni and Louis Mafouta of the Central African Republic also scored five goals each during the AFCON qualifiers.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah managed to score two goals in the race to the competition.

Nigeria’s all-time scorers: Osimhen moves up

Sports Brief earlier reported that Osimhen is now the fourth all-time top scorer for Nigeria, with 20 goals in just 27 matches.

The former Lille striker still has a high hill to climb, as he is still behind the all-time record holder, Rashidi Yekini.

The late legend still holds the record for most goals scored for the Nigerian men's national team, with 37 goals from 62 appearances.
