Cristiano Ronaldo's Marrakesh hotel has debunked reports that it is hosting Morocco’s earthquake victims after the North African nation was hit with one of its deadliest natural disasters in decades.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was widely reported to have opened the gates to his five-star hotel to victims of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake which hit Morocco on Friday.
According to GOAL, the Pestana CR7 Marrakesh spokesperson has now released a statement debunking such reports as he claims they were false and inaccurate.
"We have received many requests to host people because the hotel was not affected by the earthquake. Many guests have arrived in the past day, but it is not accurate to say that we are hosting refugees and victims."
Over 2,000 lives have been lost as a result of the earthquake on Friday, with many more injured or still missing as rescue efforts continue in the North African nation.
Morocco stars donate blood to help victims
Meanwhile, Morocco’s national football players, including Achraf Hakimi, donated blood at a medical centre in Agadir City to help the country’s earthquake victims on Saturday, the Independent reports.
The players made this gesture after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck the country, which caused the death of over 2000 people, with many injured and others still missing.
Morocco had been scheduled to play Liberia in a qualifying game for the African Cup of Nations, but the game was postponed indefinitely after the earthquake hit on Friday.

The Moroccan interior ministry estimates that a further 2,421 people were left injured by the Magnitude-7 earthquake, which was so intense that it was reportedly felt in some parts of Portugal. It is the strongest tremor to hit Morocco in the last century.
