  • Real Madrid had a relatively quiet 2023 summer transfer window
  • The La Liga club missed out on a few transfer targets, including Kylian Mbappe
  • Los Blancos have now shifted focus to the 2024 window, which a Bayern Munich defender could headline

Real Madrid appear to have moved past their 2023 summer transfer window ordeal, which was again heralded by their failure to get the signature of the club’s longtime target, Kylian Mbappe, over the line.

Not deterred by the failure to land the PSG forward, Los Blancos fans are taking solace in the fact that he club completed the signings of a few other European talents, including midfielder Jude Bellingham and Turkish star Arda Guler.

In recent years, the club’s transfer policy has drifted from acquiring established stars in favour of young football talent and reports from Marca now state that the name of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has surfaced amongst the hierarchy at the La Liga Club.

Real Madrid to sign Alphonso Davies?

The Spanish outlet reports that the La Liga powerhouse, aiming to build a formidable team for the long-term future, are committed to strengthening every position with a focus on long-term targets and are considering the prospect of replacing left-back Ferland Mendy with the Bayern star.

Davies, who currently has two years remaining on his contract, has expressed interest in a move to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, as per reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The defender has instructed his agent to delay discussions regarding the contract renewal offered to him at the Allianz Arena.

Real Madrid recently approved the return of former academy graduate Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano due to a series of intermittent injuries faced by their primary left-back, Mendy.

The Spanish giants, now eyeing a potential acquisition of Davies, are reportedly considering the sale of Mendy, for whom the club invested €50 million in 2019 when signing the former Lyon defender.

Madrid set sights on Manchester City striker

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Real Madrid have shifted their attention from Kylian Mbappe and have identified a Manchester City striker as a likely replacement to fill the void created by Karim Benzema’s departure.

The name of Man City's Julian Alvarez has been discussed at the Spanish capital, according to reports from Fichajes, and a swoop for the Argentine striker appears very much on the cards for Real Madrid.
