  • The Barcelona striker is believed to have a rocky relationship with the Polish Football Federation
  • Lewandowski has made a slow start to the 2023/24 La Liga season

Robert Lewandowski has been scoring loads of goals in the past decade and remains one of the greatest strikers in the 21st century.

Recently, reports have emerged that his relationship with the Polish Football Federation(PZPN) is rocky after he passed a dinner bill he was supposed to pay to the federation, and now he owes them.

The dinner in question was during the 2002 World Cup in Qatar, according to the Polish outlet Meczyki via AS. He invited the Polish squad to a restaurant owned by popular Turkish chef Salt Bae.

Although he was supposed to pay the bill, the Poland captain ended up passing it to the federation. The news comes after the Barcelona striker bagged a brace against the Faroe Islands in the Euro 2024 Qualifiers.

Lewandowski's best friend, Tomasz Zawislak, categorically rubbished those allegations.

“I heard a rumour that the PZPN spreads such nonsense to attack Robert just before the most important qualifying match. What a coincidence. As is often the case with rumours, they often have little to do with the truth.
“The fact is that Robert paid for the dinner privately and never waited for or received any refund from the Polish Football Association.”

Lewandowski wants Barcelona to attack more

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski has acknowledged that he needs to bounce back and rediscover his form but has claimed he has mostly been isolated in attack for Barcelona this season, per Marca.

The Poland international has scored twice this season, having netted 23 goals in 34 games last term, with Barca beating Cadiz and Villarreal, drawing with Getafe and narrowly beating Osasusa.

Lewandowski, who has not impressed in the first stretch of the 2023/24 campaign as his performances have come under scrutiny, much like in the final stretch of the previous season, wants Barcelona to attack more.

The Polish star has scored two goals in four La Liga games.

Lewandowski blasts La Liga referees

In another report, Sports Brief stated that Robert Lewandowski has criticised the standard of officiating in Spanish football, joining several other superstars who have blasted referees in La Liga over poor officiating.

The 34-year-old forward led Barcelona to the La Liga title last season but was appalled by the level of officiating, which he admits has made the Spanish topflight unattractive.
