Paul Scholes was pressured to delve into the long-running debate about who the better player is between himself and Steven Gerrard.
The midfield duo dominated the Premier League during their respective careers with Liverpool and Manchester United.
Just like the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi debate, fans and pundits have always been torn apart on who between Scholes and Gerrard was the better midfielder.
According to The Mirror, the duo spent years as rivals with their respective clubs and as teammates with the England national team.
Scholes speaks on Gerrard debate
Recently, Scholes was asked if he believed he was better than the Liverpool legend.
Speaking during an interview on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE podcast, the Man United icon admitted it was difficult to decide which player was better.
"I can't answer that. Gerrard's a great player… I'm not saying myself. We're different, we're very different," the former Man United midfielder said.
Scholes then attempted to explain the difference in their mentalities as players.
"[Gerrard is] an athlete. I think he was more of a match-winner, but he was playing in a team where he probably had to be. I was more part of a team. He was more individual, I think," he added.
Meanwhile, Gerrard has since transitioned into football management and is currently plying his trade with Saudi Pro League side, Al-Ettifaq.
