- Villareal are in search of a new manager following the sacking of Quique Setien
Real Madrid and Raul Gonzalez are set to part ways with the club legend set to take up the vacant managerial role at Villareal after the La Liga club made an approach for him.
Villarreal sacked coach Quique Setien after a poor start to the season after amassing only one win and losing three of their opening four league games under the former Barcelona manager.
According to Football Espana, Raul and his entourage have already notified Real Madrid leaders of his intention to join Villarreal, and they have given the green light for him to become the coach of the Yellow Submarine.
The Real Madrid Castilla coach is intrigued by the project that Villarreal offers him and it has nothing to do with other proposals he received in July and August.
Raul had previously turned down offers from Eintracht Frankfurt, Schalke 04, Espanyol and Leeds in order to continue with Real Madrid’s youth team before Villarreal’s approach.
Raul still open to coach Real Madrid
Meanwhile, Raul has never hidden that he would like to coach the Real Madrid first team and would be open to returning to the club he calls home sometime in the future, MARCA reports.
Carlo Ancelotti is set to vacate his position as Los Blancos’ first-team manager at the end of the season, with the veteran Italian set to take over the Brazil national team job.
Raul has been touted as one of the favourites to take over from Ancelotti at Santiago Bernabeu following his successes with the Real Madrid youth team in the last few years.
