  • Jonny Evans is back at Manchester United to exert his experience in the club’s defence
  • The defender recently did an interview upon his return in which he claimed that his kids don’t believe he played for the club before
  • Evans won three Premier League titles in his first stint at United

Jonny Evans is back at Manchester United after eight years, but his children refuse to believe that he has played for the Old Trafford club before.

Evans signed a one-year deal with Manchester United before the summer transfer deadline as Erik ten Hag bolstered his defence amid a growing injury crisis.

The 35-year-old previously played for Leicester City, but departed the club after they suffered relegation to the Championship in the 2022/23 campaign.

Fans with long memories will remember Evans being an integral part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad as he won three Premier League titles in his first stint at Old Trafford.

However, no one gave the defender’s children the memo as Lottie, 9; Heidi, 6; and Eli, 3; all find it difficult to believe that he already has 198 appearances for the Red Devils.

"I think they know I used to play for United, but I don't think they believe me in that sense," he told ManUtd.com.
"My eldest was actually born during my last season at the club [2014-15] so it'd be nice to be able to take them to Old Trafford and for the children to see their dad running out at Old Trafford would be something special for any child.
"So, I'm really fortunate and lucky that I get to do that."

After leaving United in 2015, Evans joined West Brom where he played for three years before switching to Leicester City. With the Foxes, he won the FA Cup in 2021, as per Transfermkt.

Evans’ nightmare return to United

Evans’ return to United did not start off on a positive note as his first appearance back ended in a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

Notably, the defender, who came on as a substitute in the second half, deflected Declan Rice’s shot into the net to give Arsenal a 2-1 lead before Gabriel Jesus’ spectacular goal moments later.

The PL table without VAR

Sports Brief also reported on how the Premier League table would look without the Video Assisted Referee (VAR).

The technology has been involved in many controversial decisions, with most of them hugely impacting the outcome of specific matches.

According to data crunched by GiveMeSport, while City have directly benefited from VAR decisions, they would still be topping the table with 12 points.
