The 2023/24 Premier League campaign has kicked off in earnest, with clubs trying to settle into the new season.

City have won all of their four Premier League outings, with the last ending in a huge 5-1 win over Fulham.

The Citizens' impressive start has them topping the standings with 12 points, two ahead of the Gunners, who dropped points against the Cottagers in a 2-2 draw.

While fans are excited for the return of the Premier League, nothing has left them more divided than the VAR.

The technology has been involved in somewhat controversial decisions already this term, with most of them hugely impacting the outcome of specific matches.

VAR sparks controversy during Arsenal vs Man United

Arsenal's recent meeting with rivals, Manchester United was one such fixture that was riddled with controversies by the VAR.

Red Devils boss, Erik ten Hag has openly criticised refereeing decisions during the cracker that saw his side demolished 3-1.

Sportbible reports the Dutchman went on to pinpoint three instances where refereeing decisions went against his side, with the VAR hugely involved.

Incredibly, United are not the only team that have been disgruntled with VAR decisions, with Nottingham Forest also negatively impacted.

EPL table without VAR

According to data crunched by GiveMeSport, while City have directly benefited from VAR decisions, they would still be topping the table with 12 points.

Arsenal, who currently sit fifth with 10 points, would be down a place with nine points.

Tottenham Hotspur would still be in second place with 12 points, instead of their current 10 points.

Liverpool and West Ham United would be sitting third and fourth, respectively, with no change to their current point tally of 10.

Elsewhere, Manchester United would be sitting eighth with seven points, while Chelsea would be occupying 12th place with a paltry four points.

Burnley, meanwhile, would still be bottom of the table with zero points after a disastrous run of form under Vincent Kompany. The Clarets are yet to pick any point so far this term in four outings.

Everton and Luton Town are the other sides who would still be in the relegation zone even if VAR was not in use.

Arsenal backed to challenge EPL title

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Manchester City legend, David Silva weighing in on this season's Premier League title race.

City are among the clubs expected to challenge for the crown, with Guardiola's charges seeking a fourth consecutive victory.

The Citizens beat Arsenal to the title last term, with the Gunners losing out in the closing stages despite a dominant run of wins.
