Olympique Lyon's fans expressed unbridled dissatisfaction with the playing body after a disappointing defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on September 3.
Kylian Mbappe secured a first-half brace as the Parisians emerged as 4-1 victors over Lyon, with all four goals being netted in the initial 45 minutes of the game.
Lyon's 2023/24 season has not started on the right foot, having only collected one point from their first three matches and encountering off-the-field challenges, including asset freezing, which has hindered their on-field progress, per Eurosport.
After the match's conclusion, the players stood before the Virage Nord, which houses the Bad Gones ultras - the team's prominent ultras group and one of the largest in Ligue 1.
Lyon players looked on sheepishly as one of the ultras leaders addressed them through a microphone and speakers.
What did Lyon fans tell the players?
The fan said the message was addressed to some of the current squad and to those who had assumed the status of dressing room leaders for the French side.
"If there are leaders in the dressing room, they have lost the right to keep quiet. You are wearing the Olympique Lyonnais jersey, and you listen to us," the ultras leader said, as quoted by GFFN.
"You are the ones who wear the OL jersey. Others before you have worn it; glorified it. You have no right to tarnish it."
The appeal from the ultras to the Lyon players was for the admiration of the fans to be earned.
“Now that the transfer window has shut, the squad is here. We only ask one thing: [for us to] be on your side... We love and respect this jersey."

Football"Because we know you play with your heart. But we expect you guys to respect our jersey and to give your all on the pitch. And if we take a beating, we keep our heads high. Go [Lyon]!"
It is clear the ultras will be keeping an even closer eye on their team as Lyon prepares for a Ligue 1 clash with Le Havre on Sunday night. The Normandy club is eight places above Les Gones, who are bottom of the league.
