PSG teammate speaks highly of Mbappe amid ongoing contract saga
FootballKylian Mbappe Begins Talks to Extend PSG Contract, Set to Snub Real Madrid Again
- Kylian Mbappe is now in talks to sign a new Paris Saint-Germain contract
- The Frenchman’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season
- Mbappe has scored five goals in his first three games for PSG this season
Kylian Mbappe looks set to make a U-turn on his decision to quit Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season when his current contract with the Parisians expires.
The 24-year-old forward has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, which initially led to him being exiled from PSG’s first-team for refusing to extend his contract, which will see him become a free agent next summer.
According to Caught Offside, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Mbappe is now in talks with PSG to extend his contract after turning down previous offers.
“He’s finally in conversations with the club, something that in June and July didn’t happen. Mbappe’s camp is speaking to PSG about future and an extension is being discussed, nothing completed yet.”
If Mbappe extends his contract, it will almost certainly rule out a move to Real Madrid next summer, forcing the Spanish club to look for a new striker elsewhere.
Mbappe gives up PSG loyalty bonus
Meanwhile, Mbappe is set to leave a significant loyalty bonus on the table at Paris Saint-Germain, having reached an arrangement behind the scenes with the club’s management, Get Football reports.
The 24-year-old forward was set to receive a payout valued between €60 million and €80 million but has decided to forfeit it. PSG will save more than €100 million overall.
This act persuaded PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that Mbappe should be allowed to rejoin the squad and complete the remainder of his contract, as the money saved is similar to whatever transfer fee PSG might have obtained for the player this summer.

FootballWhy Madrid didn't sign Mbappe
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Real Madrid consistently passed up opportunities to sign different forwards this summer, including Harry Kane and Dusan Vlahovic, with reports stating that Los Blancos had their sights fixed on Mbappe.
However, recent reports have stated the La Liga giants would have been unable to afford a deal for Mbappe, given that the club had earlier paid a fee in the region of ₤103 million to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
It is reported that a deal to sign the PSG star this summer would cost the Spanish giant an excess of ₤400 million, a fee the club currently remodelling its stadium cannot afford to shell out.
