  • Man United winger Antony has strongly denied allegations of physical aggression towards his former girlfriend
  • The winger was on Monday dropped from the Brazil squad for the upcoming international break
  • Antony’s ex, Gabriela Cavallin alleges the former Ajax man headbutted him in a hotel room on January 15

Embattled Manchester United winger Antony has broken his silence on battery allegations made by his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin.

This came after Brazilian news outlet UOL published explosive allegations made by Gabriela Cavallin, who is the winger’s ex-partner.

Cavallin, who is a social media influencer, alleges to have been headbutted by Antony on January 15 and also claims to have suffered a punch to the chest at the hands of the United star.

The influencer is also said to have filed a report at the Sao Paulo Civil Police in regards to abuse of a physical and verbal nature from Antony.

Antony’s statement on abuse allegations

Taking to social media on Monday, Antony, whose career is on the line as a result of the explosive claims, attempted to defend himself by vehemently denying the claims.

The £85.5million man wrote, as per Fabrizio Romano:

“Out of respect for my fans, friends and family, I feel obliged to speak out publicly about the false accusations I have been the victim of,”
“From the beginning I have treated this matter with seriousness and respect, providing the necessary clarifications before the police authority. The police investigation is under judicial secrecy, and therefore I cannot make its contents public.
“However, I can calmly state that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and the other evidence that will be produced demonstrate that I am innocent of the accusations made.
“My relationship with Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal insults from both sides, but I never committed any physical aggression.
“At each moment, whether in testimony or in an interview, she presents a different version of the accusations.

Antony dropped from Brazil's squad

Meanwhile, as cited on BBC, the allegations have come with a ripple effect for Antony as he has been dropped from the Brazil squad.

The Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) released a statement on Monday announcing that Antony would be absent for the upcoming games against Bolivia and Peru.

"Due to the facts that became public this Monday involving Manchester United player Antony, and which need to be investigated, and in order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian team and the CBF, the organisation informs that the athlete has been withdrawn from the Brazilian team,” the statement read as cited on ESPN.

As it stands, Manchester United have declined to comment on the allegations.

Incidentally, abuse allegations against Antony came barely a month after Manchester United announced they would not continue with their star striker Mason Greenwood, whose similar charges were dropped in February.

The 21-year old has since moved on and joined Getafe on loan from Old Trafford.

Arsenal fans applaud Maguire's substitution

Sports Brief also reported on how Arsenal fans savagely applauded when Harry Maguire was brought on on Sunday, September 3.

Erik ten Hag's side were hard done by with a couple of refereeing decisions, with injuries also playing a part.

Lisandro Martinez was taken off in the 67th minute, with Maguire taking his place, much to the delight of the home fans.

A video doing rounds on social media shows the fans cheering on the former United captain sarcastically as he makes his way up the pitch.
