It was a bad day in office for Super Falcons star Michelle Alozie as she was sent off in Houston Dash's 1-0 loss to San Diego Wave in the US National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) on Sunday.
The Nigerian Women's international was sent off in the 33rd minute by centre referee Ekaterina Koroleva after she tripped San Diego Wave player Rachel Hill, who was through on goal.
Houston Dash's night turned from bad to worse after Jaedyn Shaw hit the back of the net for Wave FC in the 57th minute to seal all three points for the home side.
Here is the video of the incident:
Alozie took to her official page on X (formerly known as Twitter) to thank her team after she put them in a difficult situation for the most part of the game.
"Disappointed that I put my team in a tough position tonight. however, extremely proud of the effort and fight that they had with only 10 players. I will always give it all for them and the H," she said.
Alozie's red card put a bad mark on her previous heroic performance for Houston Dash against KC Current. The Super Falcons star scored an equaliser in the 67th minute after the team went a goal down in the first half.
The Super Falcons' defender will now miss her club's next game in the NWSL against Racing Louisville. She will miss a chance to face her fellow Nigerian international, Uchenna Kanu, who plays for the hosts.
