Robert Lewandowski has criticised the standard of officiating in Spanish football, joining several other superstars who have blasted referees in La Liga over poor officiating.
The 34-year-old forward led Barcelona to the La Liga title last season but was appalled by the level of officiating, which he admits has made the Spanish topflight not attractive.
According to GOAL, Lewandowski, who is set to lead Barcelona’s attack against Osasuna on Sunday, claimed that the referees in Spain are killing the league.
“La Liga is not attractive and attacking enough. Referees are killing the league. I didn't expect Spanish league teams to be this reluctant to play football."
Valencia captain Jose Gaya and former Real Betis player Sergio Canales were both banned for four games last season after criticising referees after La Liga games.
Lewandowski wants Barcelona to attack more
Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski has acknowledged that he needs to bounce back and rediscover his form but has claimed he has mostly been isolated in attack for Barcelona this season, MARCA reports.
The Poland international has scored once this season, having netted 23 goals in 34 games last term, with Barca beating Cadiz and Villarreal and drawing with Getafe.
Lewandowski, who has not impressed in the first stretch of the 2023/24 campaign as his performances have come under scrutiny, much like in the final stretch of the previous season, wants Barcelona to attack more.
