  • Joao Palhinha’s move from Fulham to Bayern Munich collapsed on deadline day
  • Palhinha flew to Munich to complete a record club sale to the Bundesliga champions
  • The forward joined Fulham in 2022 for €20m from Portuguese side Sporting

Joao Palhinha is staying at Fulham after a move to Bayern Munich collapsed on transfer deadline day after the English Premier League club had a last-minute change of mind.

The 28-year-old midfielder had flown to Munich to complete his transfer to the Bundesliga champions and had even posed with their jersey and completed a medical before the deal collapsed.

According to the Telegraph, Fulham struggled to identify a suitable replacement for Palhinha at such short notice, and ultimately, an agreement could not be reached over a player who is widely regarded as the most important in their squad.

The Portugal midfielder’s departure from Craven Cottage would have represented a record sale for Fulham after Bayern submitted a massive £60 million to sign the player.

Palhinha, who joined Fulham last summer for £17m and is under contract with the Premier League club until 2027, will now have to return to Craven Cottage and continue his career.

Bayern release Gravenberch despite Palhinha heartbreak

Meanwhile, The collapsed Joao Palhinha deal does not impact Ryan Gravenberch's move from Bayern Munich to Liverpool as neither deal was dependent on the other going through, Caught Offside reports.

The 21-year-old Dutch midfielder signed a five-year deal with Jurgen Klopp's side and becomes the Reds' fourth summer signing as Liverpool continues to rebuild.

Gravenberch has joined Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo in moving to Anfield this summer, following the departures of Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Fabio Carvalho.

Pavard signs for Inter Milan from Bayern Munich

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Benjamin Pavard has signed for Inter Milan from Bayern Munich, the Serie A club announced on Wednesday.

In a statement, Inter confirmed that France full-back Pavard has moved to Italy in a permanent deal for which local media report last season's losing Champions League finalists will pay 30 million euros plus a potential two million euros' worth of add-ons.

Pavard, who landed in Milan on Tuesday, has been in limbo, waiting for Bayern to agree to the transfer for a week.
