Jordan Pickford was the subject of great ridicule on social media after conceding one of the most bizarre own goals you will see all weekend.

Everton came up against Sheffield United in an early Premier League kick off on Saturday, August 2 with both sides looking for a first Premier League win of the season.

It was The Toffees who struck first through Abdoulaye Doucoure, who finished from close range from a rebound after Wes Foderingham initially parried the ball. This was Everton’s first goal in the league this season.

But Sheffield United drew level in the 33rd minute through £18m signing Cameron Archer, who hit a shot first time to beat Pickford.

The goal as no more than what the home side deserved as they were a constant threat on the Everton half, as cited on BBC.

There was more drama to come before half time, as Archer was once again in the thick of the drama.

The youngster was fed a ball by Gustavo Hamer and he hit a superb curler which beat Pickford, but could not beat the post. However, in a bizarre slice of luck, the ball came off Pickford and casually rolled into the net to give the Blades the lead.

It was the bizarre nature of the goal that left fans saying the Everton goalkeeper was “finished”.
