However, Real Madrid fans remain unfazed, as the club had previously declared that their transfer dealings were concluded early with the signing of Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizzabalaga.
For those who held out hope for a last-minute swoop for Kylian Mbappe, their dreams were dashed, leaving the Spanish giants to enter the upcoming football season without a star striker for the first time in their history. Recent reports from Marca seem to vindicate the club’s decision to forgo signing a high-profile forward.
Real Madrid’s reason for not signing Mbappe
Real Madrid consistently passed up opportunities to sign different forwards this summer, including Harry Kane and Dusan Vlahovic, with reports stating that Los Blancos had its sight fixed on Mbappe.
However, recent reports from the Spanish outlet have stated the La Liga giant would have been unable to afford a deal for Mbappe, given the club had earlier paid a fee in the region of ₤103 million to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
It is reported that a deal to sign the PSG star this summer would cost the Spanish giant an excess of ₤400 million, a fee the club currently remodelling its stadium cannot afford to shell out.
Nonetheless, Madrid Universal reports that Real Madrid will reenter the deal to sign Mbappe in January of 2024 with the hope a deal for the forward could be completed ahead of the 2024 summer window.
