Thabang Monare has joined the Orlando Pirates on a two-year deal, the Buccaneers confirmed on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old will join the Bucs in the compressed 2020/21 season which includes the CAF Confederations Cup.

“I am happy to have signed with the Club,” said Monare. “I hope, like I have done in my entire career, I can make a meaningful contribution during my time here. I think this is a team that suits my style of play and that can only benefit me and the team for the season ahead.”

Monare started trending on social media following the news and soccer fans had a lot to say about the signing. Bucs fans welcomed the news and they poked fun at the Kaizer Chiefs.

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported Ghanaian footballer Richard Ofori has found a new home in the Orlando Pirates. The Bucs will reportedly make an official announcement once the deal is sealed.

The news was confirmed by Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia, whom revealed the Pirates made an offer for Ofori and it has been accepted. Kadodia told the media on Tuesday:

"I can now confirm that we've allowed Orlando Pirates to begin talks with Richard Ofori. Once the deal is concluded they will make an announcement."

In other news, South African Minister of Sport Nathi Mthethwa said he intends on intervening in Cricket South Africa (CSA) unless they give him a reason not to. The minister has given CSA until 27 October to put forth their defence to prevent him from intervening.

His declaration comes after the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) instructed the CSA board and executive to move aside while an examination concerning their monetary and administration undertakings went on.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been informed about Mthethwa's plans, meaning they can sanction a national board which could result in the banning of international play.
