The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage draw has sparked a flurry of reactions. Fans and clubs alike have expressed a mix of enthusiasm and humour in response to the groupings revealed during the UCL draw.

Red Bull Salzburg found themselves placed in Group D, sharing the stage with Portuguese powerhouse Benfica, last year’s UEFA Champions League finalist Inter Milan, as well as La Liga club Real Sociedad. The Austrian team’s draw has sparked a significant reaction, including a response from RB Salzburg itself.

The club took to its official TikTok account to express its thoughts on being drawn alongside Inter Milan.

In a video titled ‘Here we go again @Inter’ the defending Austrian Bundesliga champions playfully acknowledged the presence of the Italian giants in their group. This video has garnered a multitude of reactions from fans, some of whom have responded with humour. In contrast, others have discussed the Austrian team’s chances of advancing from their fifth UEFA Champions League group stage.

RB Salzburg, however, will fancy their chances of making it out of the group despite the sale of marquee forward Noah Okafor.

UEFA Champions League draw breakdown

The draw, which was held in Grimaldi Forum, Monaco, was attended by a flurry of footballing dignitaries, including Cameroon’s Stephane Mbia, Javier Zanetti, Luis Figo, Joe Cole, Henrik Larsson, Miroslav Klose, Eric Abidal, and Real Madrid’s Emilio Butragueno.

Participating teams were visibly anxious to discover their group-stage rivals. The groupings were subsequently revealed and categorised, as seen on UEFA.com.

Group A: Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Copenhagen, Galatasaray

Group B: Sevilla, Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven, RC Lens

Group C: SSC Napoli, Real Madrid, S.C Braga, Union Berlin

Group D: SL Benfica, Inter Milan, Red Bull Salzburg, Real Sociedad

Group E: Feyenoord Rotterdam, Atletico Madrid, SS Lazio, Celtic

Group F: Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Newcastle United

Group G: Manchester City, RB Leipzig, Crvena Zvezda, Young Boys

Group H: Barcelona, Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Royal Antwerp

Ceferin dismisses Al-Nassr UCL chances

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has dismissed the possibility of seeing Cristiano Ronaldo or a Saudi Pro League club in the UEFA Champions League.

Reports of Saudi Pro League clubs joining the UCL had previously emerged; however, Ceferin has wasted little time to rubbish these talks.
