- He admitted he sometimes liked it when Guardiola shouted at him in a response that tickled the crowd
Erling Haaland was put in an awkward position on Thursday, August 31, after he was asked who he feared more between his father Alfie and coach Pep Guardiola.
The Manchester City ace was named the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, beating the likes of Lionel Messi and his compatriot Kevin de Bruyne to the award.
It was a well-deserved award for the young striker, who had a stellar campaign in 2022/23, netting a staggering 52 goals in 53 games.
After collecting his award, Haaland was then asked by talkSPORT’s Reshmin Chowdhury who he finds more scary between his manager and his father.
Haaland had to think of a politically correct response quickly, especially because his dad was sitting just a few yards in front of him.
“Good question, sometimes Pep is a bit scary, I have to say,” he replied as cited on CBSsportgolazo.
“But my father can also be a bit scary.”
Guardiola Shouting at Haaland
The striker also alluded to an incident in City’s opening Premier League game when Guardiola was seen berating him at half time, despite his first half brace.
“But anyways this is something I like, I like it when Pep shouts at me because he tries to get something in my brain that he doesn't think I have,” Haaland added.
“So I like it, I’m not complaining at all, he just wants to make me a better footballer so I’m not complaining at all.”
“My father and me, we argue a lot, we have a lot of good moments together, so I’m not complaining at all either.”
