  • Manchester United will face Bayern Munich in the 2023/2024 Champions League group stage
  • Arsenal, who are making a comeback for the first time after six seasons, have been dealt a 'fairer' group
  • Paris Saint-Germain have presumably been drawn in the Group of Death alongside AC Milan, Dortmund, and Newcastle United

The race to qualify for the 2023/2024 Champions League final next year at the iconic Wembley Stadium has officially begun.

The group stage draw was conducted on August 31 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

32 teams from different UEFA member nations were placed in four pots of eight teams each. Teams from the same country cannot face each other in the group stage.

Groups to watch

Manchester United will face Bayern Munich in Group A in what is set to be an entertaining tie. Harry Kane will make an immediate return to England to face a club that had previously been interested in his services, as captured by the Independent.

Arsenal were handed a relatively easier group on paper, with Mikel Arteta's side set to face serial Europa League winners Sevilla, Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, and debutants Lens in Group B.

Defending champions Manchester City will return to Germany to face RB Leipzig, with Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys filling up the other spots.

Paris Saint-Germain, who are yet to win the trophy despite heavy investment in recent years, have been handed the proverbial 'Group of Death'. Luis Enrique's side will face Borussia Dortmund, last season's semi-finalists AC Milan, and Newcastle United, who are making a return after more than 20 years out of the competition.

Arsenal fans 'rejoice' after CL draw

Sports Brief had earlier reported that football fans all had the same thing to say about Arsenal after the Champions League draw on Thursday, August 31.

The draw came with its fair share of shockers, group favourites, and the classic group death, with Arsenal landing a rather favourable group.

The Gunners were pooled in Group B, alongside PSV Eindhoven, last season’s Europa League winners Sevilla, and French underdogs RC Lens.
