FootballRob Sanchez: Incredible Moment Chelsea’s New Goalie Does ‘Onana’ With Reckless Challenge on Rival
- Chelsea came from behind to beat AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup 2nd round
- Noni Madueke and Enzo Fernandez scored for Mauricio Pochettino's team
- Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was complicit in conceding a penalty that put the team behind
Accusing fingers have been pointed at Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for nearly costing his team victory after he almost took an opponent's head off.
Pochettino kept faith in the former Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper for the Carabao Cup round two game against League Two opponents AFC Wimbledon.
The Blues progressed to the third round with a 2-1 comeback victory thanks to goals from January recruits Noni Madueke and Enzo Fernandez, who scored his first goal for the club.
James Tilley put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot after Sanchez was adjudged to have punched the opponent when he came out for a high cross, though the referee issued no card.
Sanchez channels 'inner Onana'
According to the Daily Star, Blues fans, some of whom are against the signing of the 25-year-old, lashed out at Onana after footage of his KO punch on the opponent emerged online, as the game was not televised.
He was slammed for using a WWE style on an opponent, with fans labelling him a 'disaster waiting to happen' and 'possibly the worst goalkeeper at the club in years'.
Some fans claimed he channelled his 'inner Andre Onana' after the Manchester United goalkeeper took out Craig Dawson and Sasa Kalajdzic in a similar fashion during United's 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Some fans argued that the officiating was a disgrace as Sanchez punched the ball and not the player. VAR is not utilised in the Carabao Cup.
In Onana's case, ESPN reported that he was lucky to have escaped a marching order despite a VAR review of the incident, which might have earned Wolves a point.

Pochettino aims dig at Tottenham
Sports Brief reported that Mauricio Pochettino aimed a dig at Tottenham after his former club were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by fellow Premier League side Fulham.
Pochettino, while addressing his team's poor performance, claimed he would not dwell on the negative after his team progressed just because some other first-division clubs have been eliminated.
