  • Manchester United are scheduled to take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday
  • The Red Devils will be without several key players, who are currently out injured
  • United are in the market for new signings to provide cover for the sidelined squad members

Erik ten Hag is facing a major squad selection headache ahead of Manchester United's Premier League meeting with rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners are scheduled to host the Red Devils at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, September 1.

However, ten Hag is likely to be without up to eight players for the mouthwatering encounter.

Mason Mount, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, and Rasmus Hojlund headline a long list of United players currently on the treatment table.

According to Manchester Evening News, Varane became the latest addition to the growing list of players who are currently sidelined after he picked up an injury against Nottingham Forest.

The Sunday clash comes at a time when the Old Trafford dwellers have been struggling for form, just three matches into the new season.

While they have picked up two wins in the process, ten Hag's charges have been far from convincing.

Who are Man United targeting?

Given the current circumstances, United are likely to seal three signings ahead of the transfer deadline day to help bolster their squad.

Chelsea's Marc Cucurella has been linked with a possible switch to Old Trafford as cover for Shaw, while Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo has also been spoken about.

Tottenham's Pierre-Emile Hojberg has also emerged as a surprise target for the Red Devils just hours before the window shuts, per Sky Sports.

How United could line up

Should ten Hag land the three targets, he is likely to field a much-changed team at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Ander Onana is expected to keep his place between the sticks, having been a mainstay figure since his arrival from Inter Milan this summer.

Defence is one of the key areas ten Hag would be required to make critical decisions, with a number of key players already sidelined.

Regardless of how Harry Maguire's situation unfolds, ten Hag is more likely to partner Victor Lindelof or Todibo and Lisandro Martinez at the heart of defence.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is likely to keep his place on the right ahead of Diogo Dalot, with Cucurella playing on the left.

Hojberg could be drafted into midfield to replace Mount, with Casemiro joining him alongside skipper Bruno Fernandes.

In attack, Marcus Rashford is likely to return to the left wing, with Antony playing on the right.

With Hojlund still unfit, Anthony Martial is more likely to lead the goal hunt for Man United.

Possible Man United XI:

Goalkeeper: Andre Onana

Defenders: Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Martinez, Cucurella

Midfielders: Casemiro, Fernandes, Hojberg

Forwards: Rashford, Martial, Antony

Cucurella booed ahead of move

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Marc Cucurella has found himself on the receiving end of boos from Chelsea fans ahead of his proposed Manchester United move.

The left-back has widely been linked with a possible move to Old Trafford, albeit on loan.

A section of Chelsea fans on Wednesday night was overheard jeering the Spain international as he closes in on a sensational summer move to Old Trafford.

Cucurella was in action for the Blues during their Carabao Cup meeting with AFC Wimbledon. Pochettino's men won 2-1 during the clash.
