Former Ghana international, Michael Essien has sent a goodwill message to youngster, Ernest Nuamah, following his move to French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais.

Essien became a Lyon legend after a successful two-year stint saw him win back-to-back French league titles as well as the Ligue 1 Player of the Season in 2005.

The 40-year-old currently works with FC Nordsjaelland as an assistant coach and he is believed to have put in a word for Lyon's successful capture of Nuamah.

Nuamah joined the French outfit on a deal till the end of the current campaign, with the option of a permanent switch.

"Finally he is from Lyon, Come on Olympique Lyonnais. Come on Ernest Nuamah. Good luck my little one," wrote Essien on X.

Essien worked with Nuamah briefly at FC Nordsjaelland and hopes the 19-year-old will follow in his footsteps at Lyon.

The 2023 Golden Boy award nominee also becomes the fourth Ghanaian to sign for the former French champions, joining Abedi Pele, Essien and John Mensah, as reported by ol.fr.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Olympique Lyonnais has been one of the favourite destinations of African players and Ghanaian footballers in particular, with Michael Essien being the biggest star from the West African nation to play for the French giants.

Ghanaian teen sensation, Ernest Nuamah has become the latest to join the Ligue 1 side after sealing a record-breaking transfer from FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark.

Before Nuamah's move to Lyon, Abedi Pele was the first Black Stars player to play for the French club.

Highly-rated Ghanaian youngster, Ernest Nuamah has joined French giants Olympique Lyonnais in the summer transfer window from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.

The 19-year-old signed a deal reportedly worth a €25m fixed fee plus €5m add-ons, making him the club's most expensive signing.

Nuamah also becomes the most expensive transfer from the Danish league, breaking the record set by compatriot Kamaldeen Sulemena following his move to Stade Rennais in 2021.
