There’s no stopping Mamelodi Sundowns this season.

As noted by Soccer Laduma, Lucas Ribeiro Costa scored a brace to fire his side to a sixth straight win. The win saw Sundowns remain the only side unbeaten in the DStv Premiership this season.

They have now also closed in on more records held by Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns: Six in a row

With the win, The Brazilians became only the third side to win the first six games of the season.

Orlando Pirates achieved the feat in the 2002/03 season, while Chiefs did it in 2014/15. Chiefs won the first eight games of that season.

30 not out for Masandawana

The reigning champions are now unbeaten in 30 consecutive games in the league, becoming only the second side in the history of the Premier Soccer League to do so.

They are also one game away from drawing level with Chiefs’ record of 31 games. Sundowns will next take on Pirates in the league, and the Soweto giants could put their streak to an end.

Sundowns close in on record

Mamelodi Sundowns have a habit of breaking records.

The reigning DStv Premiership champions have dominated South African football in recent years and have broken many records in the process, Sports Brief reported.

The Brazilians already hold the records for most wins in a season, most wins in succession, most home wins in a 30-game season, and most goals in a season, to name a few.

Sundowns break two more records

No team had ever won the DStv Premiership in April before.

No team had also sealed the title with seven matches to go in a league campaign.

Mamelodi Sundowns now hold these records following their sixth consecutive Premier Soccer League triumph and record-extending 13th, Sports Brief reported.
