Mikel Arteta has changed the outlook of the team, and some strong performers from last season suffered
Rio Ferdinand pointed at a player who couldn't handle criticism and sent him a private message
Rio Ferdinand refuses to comment on an Arsenal star suffering from Mikel Arteta's tinkering, as he claims the player can't handle criticisms.
Arsenal were one of the Premier League's best teams last season, but a late capitulation meant they had nothing to show for their excellent run, even though they were within touching distance of winning the title.
Arteta had a consistent starting 11, which fell apart with injuries to Gabriel Jesus, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the season's closing stages.
Despite their flamboyance, many pundits were critical of the sustainability of their performances and rightly predicted their collapse when pressure builds at the end of the season.
As reported by Goal, Gary Neville consistently claimed that the Gunners would crumble to eventual champions Manchester City at the end of the season.
Ferdinand exposes Gabriel Magalhaes
Arteta has made a few tweaks to the team, which has seen Thomas Partey moved to right-back and Gabriel Magalhaes dropped to the bench, but many have claimed the defender was dropped due to being error-prone.
Speaking on his podcast, FIVE, Ferdinand was asked for comments on this, but he declined, claiming he had received a private message from the player for talking about the same issue last season.
“I said that last year, and he didn’t like it; he DM’d me. This is a big thing, for me, with players today, they can’t take criticism,” he said.
“Players today, not all of them, I have had quite a few players who have come through their agents. Yes, he [Gabriel] came directly to me, which I respect. But, at the same time, I don’t think he saw what I was saying.”

Sports Brief reported that Piers Morgan slammed Arteta and Havertz after the Germans struggled again in Arsenal's 2-2 draw against London neighbours Fulham.
The renowned broadcaster was highly critical of the manager tinkering the working system to favour his new signing, which has forced Thomas Partey to right-back and Gabriel Magalhaes out of the team.
